Philippine is one of the most dangerous place to travel alone. There are known terrorists and criminals kidnapping foreigners. Also, remember one thing, Filipino polices are one of the most corrupted and incompetent. They may harass single backpackers for bribe. And in case you become a criminal or terrorist hostage, your survival is slim.
It is absolutely not as safe as people think it is. Try to stay away.
