蛐蛐属于蟋蟀科，但是仅仅是其中的一种。尽管蛐蛐通称蟋蟀，一名促织，但是科学分类上他们是不同的。也就是说蛐蛐一定是蟋蟀，但是蟋蟀不一定是蛐蛐。就好象“氯化钠一定是盐，但是盐不一定专指食盐”这个道理一样。昆虫纲直翅目蟋蟀总科的一个大科。鉴别特征是蝈蝈一般是草绿色，不发亮；蟋蟀和蛐蛐黑褐色，油光发亮！
而蝈蝈是直翅目，螽斯科昆虫。
1，蝈蝈
人称“叫哥哥”，属直翅目，螽斯科昆虫。蝈蝈体长约4厘米，宽近1厘米，身体壮实，虫体绿色，因产地不同，颜色深淡不一，一般在淡绿至深绿之间。头部有黄褐色、细长呈丝状的触角，是其感觉器官之一。后足强健、大腹，善跳跃。生于原野草丛、矮林、灌木，平时隐藏于草中，或在植物茎杆上爬行、栖息、觅食。
2，蛐蛐：
属于蟋蟀科，但是仅仅是其中的一种。也就是说蛐蛐一定是蟋蟀，但是蟋蟀不一定是蛐蛐。就好象“氯化钠一定是盐，但是盐不一定专指食盐”这个道理一样。
3，蟋蟀：
蟋蟀，北方人俗称蛐蛐。因其能鸣善斗，自古便为人饲养。据记载，中国家庭饲养蟋蟀始于唐代，当时无论朝中官员，还是平民百姓，人们在闲暇之余都喜欢带上自己的“宝贝”，聚到一起一争高下。在生物分类中蟋蟀属昆虫纲直翅目蟋蟀科，约有1400种，我国已知的有30余种。据研究，蟋蟀是一种古老的昆虫，至少已有1．4亿年的历史。
