I believe it. Like Jason said, the teacher told him his grammar and syntax suck, which is normal if you try to translate mandarin (especially poems) into english.

well actually it can be possible. I have a friend who copy some Chinese scholar into his biology paper. And he got a good grade. And it was a college course. it’s all depending on the teachers.

What’s hard to believe about an English teacher (likely non-Chinese) that took someone who plagiarized Chinese poems as original work?
People plagiarize things all the time, and it is nearly impossible for a teacher to catch it when the original is not even in his/her native language.
Without regards to good grammar and syntax, translating a poem would be the same as translating other documents, song lyrics, tv shows, etc. It’s not that hard.
Bottom line is Jason had no reason to make random things up, especially something as small as this.
II can literally translate one right now.
